Bachverein Mainz

The Friends and Supporters of the Bach Choir Mainz e. V., in short: the Bachverein Mainz, has been successfully active for many years in its endeavor to support the BACHCHOR MAINZ under his director Prof. Ralf Otto in the performance of his musical tasks and projects.

The Bachverein Mainz is thus an important part of the success story of BACHCHOR MAINZ. Without his moral and financial help, which in turn is based on the passion of many music lovers and admirers of the BACHCHOR MAINZ, many great, experience-rich musical moments could not have happened.

Bach Choir Mainz

The successful engagement with the rich repertoire of choral music from the 16th century to the present has earned the BACHCHOR MAINZ, under the direction of Prof. Ralf Otto, a high reputation far beyond the borders of Germany.

The Bach Choir was founded by the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau in 1955 by Diethard Hellmann, who led the choir for 30 years.

His successor Ralf Otto has been continuously expanding the program of the ensemble since 1986, placing a special emphasis on rarely performed works as well as contemporary music. In Mainz, Otto established an intense engagement with the historically informed performance practice, which, combined with the high emotionality inherent in the ensemble, makes every concert a special listening experience.

Vox Humana Ensemble

Under the direction of Dean’s cantor Christoph Rethmeier, the Vox Humana Ensemble, the choir of the Protestant Deanery Westerwald, developed into a powerful amateur choir whose name today stands for church choral work of the highest standard.

Founded in 1987 as the choir of the Protestant Deanery Bad Marienberg, the choir has been under the direction of Christoph Rethmeier since 1996. With your takeover and the first performances of Händel ‘s oratorio “The Messiah” in 1998 and 1999, the choir is committed to a cappella choral works, especially oratory and symphonic choral music.

The range of musical repertoire now ranges from sacred a cappella choral music to performances of great symphonic oratorios from all periods of music history.
